Progressive Displacement of Scapula Fractures

چکیده

INTRODUCTION Historically, minimally-to-moderately displaced extra-articular scapula fractures have been managed conservatively. It is possible that operative criteria could be met for a given patient if progressive displacement in the post injury period were to occur. A retrospective review of an operative cohort of patients was performed to determine if a subset of scapula fractures that initially were minimally displaced and did not meet operative criteria subsequently showed progressive displaced in the post-injury period, thereby meeting operative criteria.

Scapula fractures in complex shoulder injuries and floating shoulders: a classification based on displacement and instability

BACKGROUND Scapula fractures with injuries of the Superior Shoulder Suspensory Complex are often referred to as floating shoulders. However, present studies do not allow comparative evidence on indication for surgical treatment mostly due to the lack of precise definitions and comparable classifications. The aim of this study was to retrospectively analyze common types of complex shoulder injur...

Surgery for scapula process fractures

BACKGROUND Generally, scapula process fractures (coracoid and acromion) have been treated nonoperatively with favorable outcome, with the exception of widely displaced fractures. Very little has been published, however, regarding the operative management of such fractures and the literature that is available involves very few patients. Our hypothesis was that operative treatment of displaced ac...

Fractures of the scapula.

The scapula connects the arm with the chest wall and is therefore of great importance for a free range of shoulder of motion. For a long-term scapular fractures had been treated predominantly conservative. However, clinical studies of the past decades revealed that some fracture patterns deserve operative treatment to prevent unfavorable functional outcome and chronic state of pain. Scapular fr...

Analysis of operative versus nonoperative treatment of displaced scapular fractures.

BACKGROUND Operative indications for displaced scapular fractures have been controversial and inconsistent. Surgeons have been dissuaded to operate on these uncommon fractures because of the complex anatomy, approaches, and fracture patterns. It is unclear whether return to work, pain, or complications differ in patients with scapular fractures treated nonoperatively or operatively. QUESTIONS...

Scapuloplasty alleviates scapular pain resulting from lung cancer metastasis.

Osteoplasty, a highly effective minimally invasive procedure that alleviates the painful effects of metastatic bone disease by injecting bone cement to support weakened bones, provides immediate and substantial pain relief. However, it is rarely performed in non-weight bearing flat bones such as the scapula. Fractures of the body of the scapula are rarely treated surgically, except for cases of...
